Call for Submissions

The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) invites submissions for the 2023 Biennial Meeting, to be held on March 23 - 25, 2023. We encourage submissions from researchers at all career stages including graduate and undergraduate students. Please review the call carefully and adhere to the submission requirements to ensure smooth operation of the submission, review, and decision notification process. Thank you!

To start your Biennial Submission:

1. Login in or create an account on SRCD’s website. (Note: Questions about your SRCD membership? Please contact membership@srcd.org).
2. On the right under “Contact Information,” choose “Update my Demographics” to ensure we have the most accurate information.
3. Click "Return to User Account" after updating your demographic information.
4. Under “Meeting Information,” select “Access Biennial Meeting Submission Portal.” 
5. Select "Submit or Edit a Proposal” and follow the directions to submit your proposal.

Every submission will be peer-reviewed, and acceptances will be announced in late Fall. Accepted submissions will be posted publicly by SRCD so that authors can include them on their vitae, and accepted presentations will be afforded a means for dissemination and engagement with others.

Call for Reviewers

All reviewing is completed online. Reviewers will need access to the internet and be available from October 11 through October 25, 2022. All assignments should be finished and submitted no later than Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 11:59 PM ET.

Call for Volunteer Reviewers for 2023 Submitted Program

SRCD will rely on a large team of volunteer reviewers from across multiple disciplines to evaluate submissions for the 2023 Biennial Meeting on March 23 – 25. We project that we will need over 800 scholars with expertise in all areas of child development for this submitted program. The intellectual reputation and research strength of the SRCD Biennial Meeting is derived in part from the rigor of our blind, peer review process. Each submission will be reviewed by a minimum of two (2) reviewers. Reviewers will be assigned 12-15 submissions by the review panel for which they volunteer. Reviewers will receive their assignments by Monday, October 10, 2022, and must complete their reviews by Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

We expect to begin assigning volunteers to review panels by the end of July. If selected, you will receive an invitation via email. Please be sure to either “accept” or “decline” the invitation. Note: Reviewers can only accept to review on one (1) panel. Reviewers cannot review on multiple review panels.

Review Panels and Topics

Guidelines for potential reviewers:

• You do not need to be a current SRCD member to volunteer to review.
• All reviewing will be done online, so you will need to have access to the internet and be available from October 10 through October 25, 2022.
• A Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree is required to volunteer to review.
• Reviewers may volunteer for only one panel. View the complete list of panels/topics for 2023.
• The number of reviewers needed is dependent on the number of submissions to a panel. Therefore, not all volunteers may be invited to serve on a panel.

Review Criteria

1. Leading Edge Research, Diversity. The SRCD strategic plan is intended to represent the future of the field as being interdisciplinary, international, attending to culture and diversity in an appropriate way, and/or having serious implications for policy. Hence, submissions with one or more of these qualities signify that they represent leading edge research that is desirable for the Biennial Meeting program.
2. Formulation and conceptualization. Is the purpose, question, or issue clearly delineated and linked to the empirical, historical, analytical, or theoretical significance of the work? We discourage acceptance of “promissory notes.” There must be enough empirical material in the summary, coded and analyzed— even if not yet complete—to judge the merit of a submission.
3. Methods. The various disciplines represented in SRCD use a variety of methods. Please be particularly alert to the dangers of imposing a narrow definition of methodological adequacy that may be inappropriate in some areas. Are the methods appropriate for the question asked or the purpose undertaken? For research posters or papers, is the method clearly presented, appropriately executed, solid and replicable, logically designed, matched in scope to the question? Descriptive case studies, single subject, and small‐N designs, and other approaches are as appropriate as large group studies with statistical analyses. Are analyses appropriate for the data? Studies with analyses in progress may be acceptable if the designs and the analyses are well conceptualized.
4. Interpretation. In relation to the focal question, issue, or purpose, is the interpretation appropriate? Is it justified in relation to the data and analyses, the material reviewed, or other information presented?
5. Importance. Is the topic of scientific, scholarly, methodological, or theoretical importance? Is the content timely in relation to current issues or controversies? Is the content likely to be of interest to meeting attendees?

How to Volunteer:

1. Log in or create an account on SRCD’s website. NOTE: If you have not logged into your SRCD website account since 6/25/2019, you will need to create a new account. If you have changed affiliations or institutions, please update your SRCD profile. DO NOT create a new account. If you are having issues accessing your SRCD account, please contact SRCD Membership by emailing membership@srcd.org.
2. Update your research area expertise by reviewing or completing your demographics information. This information will assist panel chairs in assigning submissions to appropriate experts.
3. After you’ve updated your demographics, return to your account profile and select “Access Biennial Meeting Submission Portal” which can be found under Meeting Information in the Account Actions menu.
4. Click “Volunteer to Review” and complete the form.

SRCD Mentor-Student Early Career Review Pairs: An Optional Program for SRCD Members

SRCD members may wish to pair with a Student or Early Career member as a mentor/mentee review pair in order to give their students an opportunity to participate in the review process.

Qualifications:

To apply as a review pair, Mentors will fill out the Volunteer Reviewer form as stated above and will be asked for their mentee’s information. Mentees do not need to fill out a separate Volunteer Reviewer form. Mentors will complete the form on behalf of their mentee. Once a mentor has been invited and agreed to serve on a panel, their mentee will be sent an invitation by the SRCD Program Office. Both mentors and mentees must be SRCD members. Please review the SRCD Mentor/Mentee Procedures and Guidelines for more information.

1. A Mentor must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be either

• A current Professional Member of SRCD, or
• A current Early Career Member of SRCD who is 3-5 years post-doctorate.

2. A Graduate Student or Early Career Reviewer paired with a Mentor may be

• A current Graduate Student Member of SRCD, or
• A current Early Career Member of SRCD who is less than 3 years post-doctorate.
