Around the World and Back Again: About the SRCD International Affairs Committee
We continue our spotlight series on initiatives of SRCD’s 14 active standing and operational committees, this time taking a closer look at the International Affairs Committee. Spotlights on the Equity and Justice Committee and the Student and Early Career Council are available. |
SRCD proudly brings together members from over 50 countries. Scholars from around the globe gather under the SRCD imprimatur to exchange knowledge about child development research, policy, and translation. Our success is, in part, due to the accomplishments of the International Affairs Committee.
Established in 1990 by the Governing Council, the International Affairs Committee mission is to advocate for an international perspective on child development research and theory within the Society and its work. A central goal of the Committee is to broaden international representation in the membership and publications of the Society. The committee accomplishes its mission by facilitating international collaborations in research, education, and application by holding formal workshops and conferences, as well as informal international exchanges of knowledge about child development.
The International Affairs Committee is currently chaired by Silvia H. Koller (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) and Gianluca Esposito (University of Trento, Italy & Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and the committee consists of ten members, including a representative from the Student and Early Career Council. (Full roster below.)
"Our aim is to foster international collaborations among child development scientists from around the world,” said Professor Esposito, co-chair of the committee. “We invite SRCD member colleagues from different geographic areas and ethnic groups to join us and efforts."
