Call for Nominations: Policies and Programs to Reduce Intergenerational Poverty

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is searching for experts to serve on a congressionally mandated study on intergenerational poverty. This study is designed to complement and build on the findings in the recent congressionally mandated report, A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty. The committee will apply a racial/ethnic disparities lens in analyzing the literature on key determinants of entrenched poverty and the evidence on the effectiveness of programs designed to address those determinants. It will make recommendations to guide future federal investments in long-term measures to reduce intergenerational poverty.
The study will be carried out by a committee of approximately 14 volunteer experts and practitioners—with an understanding of local, state, and federal policies related to safety net programs, early childhood, k-12 education, job training, and structural racism—in the fields of public policy, public health, pediatrics, economics, education, developmental psychology, sociology, demography, political science, criminal justice, neuroscience, child welfare, social psychology, and social work.
