Dr. Michael Cunningham Awarded the 2025 Norman Anderson Lifetime Achievement IDEA Award
SRCD was honored to nominate Dr. Cunningham for this prestigious award
Congratulations to long-time SRCD member Dr. Michael Cunningham (pictured), Professor, Suzanne and Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellow, and Associate Provost, Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, at Tulane University’s School of Science and Engineering.
Dr. Cunningham received the 2025 Norman Anderson Lifetime Achievement Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Award from the Federation for Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences (FABBS) on December 9, 2024 at the FABBS Annual Council Meeting. Dr. Cunningham was nominated for this prestigious award by SRCD.
Named in honor of the late Dr. Norman B. Anderson, former President-Elect of FABBS and Former Assistant Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs and Professor of Social Work at Florida State University, the award recognizes and honors distinguished research, professional practice, and activities (such as mentorship), that advance these principles in the behavioral and brain sciences.
Dr. Cunningham is a founder and senior advisor of the Towards 2044: Horowitz Early Career Scholar Program and has served in leadership roles as co-chair of the SRCD Publications Committee; Co-Chair and Co-Executive Officer of the SRCD Black Caucus; a member of several SRCD task forces focused on diversifying the developmental science field; as well as serving on editorial search committees and leading SRCD Biennial Meeting review panels. Prior to the Towards 2044 program, Dr. Cunningham led the creation of the Millennium Scholars Program developed in 1999 as a vehicle to encourage scholars underrepresented in the field of developmental science to pursue graduate work.
