The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) is excited to announce the formation of the Indigenous Caucus. The Indigenous Caucus was established to advance developmental research on Indigenous children, youth, and families; to advocate for increased attention to issues related to indigeneity in developmental science more broadly; and to support the development of Indigenous researchers and scholars within developmental science.
The Indigenous Caucus will be different from other Caucuses in that it focuses not only on race, ethnicity, and nationality but also genocide, hegemony, sovereignty, and intergenerational relations across the globe. The Caucus will enhance the visibility and representation of Indigenous research and Indigenous scholars within the society through inclusion of Indigenous voices in all aspects of SRCD functioning and governance.
The Caucus will be led by the following Steering Committee:
- J. Andan Sheppard (Brigham Young University)
- Monica Tsethlikai (Arizona State University)
- Michelle Sarche (University of Colorado)
- Stephanie E. Miller (University of Mississippi)
- Melinda Gonzales-Baken (Florida State University)
- Amy K. Marks (Suffolk University)
- Evan White (Laureate Institute for Brain Research)
Caucuses of SRCD support the goal of integrating diversity in the broader society. Caucuses serve the purpose of providing support, networking opportunities, and dissemination venues for research by and about members of groups underrepresented in the study of child development. The Caucuses also advise about and advocate for diverse and inclusive representation on SRCD’s Governing Council, Committees, Editorial Boards, Review Panels, and Task Forces. The Indigenous Caucus joins the Black, Latinx, Asian, and SOGIE Caucuses.
We hope that you will consider joining the Indigenous Caucus as we work together to build a vibrant, meaningful, and successful caucus. If you have any questions regarding caucus membership, feel free to contact Joey Sheppard at joey_sheppard@byu.edu. For general questions regarding SRCD membership, contact SRCD Member Support Team at membership@srcd.org.
Please note: SRCD has a New Member Database, and all users will be prompted to create a new login and password in order to join the Indigenous Caucus. We apologize for the inconvenience.
