SRCD signed onto a multi-society letter about the Administration’s elimination of federal employee training programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (i.e., the recent Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies and the “Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping”). The letter, initiated by the American Institute of Physics, is addressed to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought and notes the executive actions conflict with ongoing efforts to create and sustain inclusive and equitable work environments for women and racial and ethnic minorities.

The letter states, “Federal employees, contractors and recipients of federal grants are at the core of the U.S. research and development (R&D) ecosystem, and they play a crucial role in creating a diverse scientific workforce. While there has been progress, the participation of women and racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. scientific and technical workforce does not reflect the diversity of our population.”

As part of SRCD’s mission to support diversity and inclusion in the developmental science workforce, SRCD endorses this letter and continues to embrace a commitment to and support for diversity in all its forms.
