Webinar: Safe Sleep for Infants

Each year about 3,500 babies in the United States die suddenly and unexpectedly before they reach their first birthday due to sleep-related deaths. These tragedies, called sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), often occur during sleep or in the baby’s sleep area, and include sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed, and other deaths from unknown causes.

Webinar: How Schools Can Become Trauma Informed

Join the Hunt Institute for a conversation with Dr. Katie Rosanbalm, Senior Research Scientist at the Duke University Center for Child and Family Policy. Dr. Rosanbalmis a child clinical and quantitative psychologist whose work has focused on program implementation and evaluation in the areas of early childhood systems. She will discuss how across the U.S., schools and districts are integrating “trauma-informed” practices and training to build safer environments for students to learn and grow. Dr. Rosanbalm will also discuss what effective trauma-informed implementation and practice looks like in schools.

Webinar: What Research Tells us About Reducing Student Chronic Absenteeism

Join the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory at Mathematica Policy Research for a webinar about the research on promising strategies for reducing chronic absenteeism. The presenters will discuss why chronic absenteeism matters, what the research says about the state of chronic absenteeism, and summarize the evidence about approaches to reducing chronic absenteeism. A speaker from the Pennsylvania Department of Education will speak about the importance of monitoring chronic absenteeism and why it’s a priority for the state.

Webinar: Academic Public Health and the Family Immigration Crisis 

Friday, October 26, 2:00-3:30pm Eastern

The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) will hold a special webinar to provide current information about the status and implications of the Trump Administration’s migration and immigration policy changes and their impact on migrant families. The session also will focus on what schools, programs, faculty, and students can do to have their voices heard on immigration and migrant issues, as well as what individuals they can do locally to help affected children and families.

The webinar will feature presentations from various experts including immigration lawyers, Congressional staff, representatives from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association, higher education advocates involved in immigration issues, and the director of a child advocacy legal clinic.

Webinar: NICHD Strategic Planning

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has launched a collaborative process to revise and update its strategic plan. The goal of this webinar is to allow external stakeholders to review NICHD’s research portfolio and help focus its science to improve the health and wellbeing of the populations we serve. NICHD Director Dr. Diana W. Bianchi will provide an overview of the strategic planning discussions to date and respond to questions and comments submitted by webinar participants.
