L. ALAN SROUFE, Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota Institute of Child Development, has been called: “The premier developmentalist of his generation” (The Bowlby/Ainsworth award citation) and “… a founder and leading contributor to the field of developmental psychopathology” (the Distinguish Scientific Award of the Society of Research in Child Development). An internationally recognized expert on early attachment relationships, emotional development, and developmental psychopathology, he has published 150 articles and 7 books on these topics, including The Development of the Person, a two time award winner.
Unlike all of Dr. Sroufe’s previous books, A Compelling Idea is the story of his personal and professional journey to discovery. Here are just a few of the many endorsements of this book:
“WOW, WOW, WOW. A COMPELLING IDEA INDEED. . . . Alan Sroufe has made sense of development in the most coherent and powerful ways. The weaving of his own experiences throughout makes it jump off the page. Amazing!”
“This engaging and poignant memoir is a must read not only for students from a variety of disciplines who are beginning their career development, but also for seasoned professionals.”
“I just loved Alan Sroufe’s memoir. I sat down to flip through it and did not put it down until I had finished. The balance between telling the history of the field and relating his personal journey is perfect and so very moving.”
“What a powerful, compelling, and courageous book Alan Sroufe has written… I am honored to give it my enthusiastic endorsement. Thank you, Alan, for all your contributions, and for lending your personal voice to this important new gift you are giving to the field.”
